A new language
Mike Brown did not arrive with a finished system. He arrived with arguments to settle: the starting lineup, where Towns caught the ball, how fast this roster should play. For two months those arguments got settled in public, some of them on national TV. The Towns question in particular would take until April to answer.

The road trip showed how far apart the spacing and the starting lineup still were.

Towns drops 39 on Miami
Hart returned to the starting lineup, Towns scored 39 against Miami, and the roster began to resemble a team.
By Thanksgiving the record looked settled. The Cup was about to test that.
